What We Build

Real Food. Right at Home.

Want to grow your own food but don't know where to start? We do. JOCS builds custom urban farming setups for Portland and Gresham homes, neighborhoods, and shared spaces.

  • Garden boxes and planters
  • Drip irrigation and watering setups
  • Fencing and trellises
  • Edible landscaping — fruit trees, berries, herbs

Why Grow Your Own

Good for Your Family. Good for Your Wallet.

Portland's climate is one of the best in the country for growing food. We make sure you actually grow some.

Fresh Food at Home

Pick your salad from the yard. Grow tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes. Better food than the grocery store.

Save Money

A small backyard farm can knock $1,000+ off your grocery bill each year. Most setups pay for themselves in two seasons.

Built to Last

Cedar beds, smart layouts, real soil mixes. Our gardens last 10+ years — not the cheap stuff that rots in a season.

Kids Learn Where Food Comes From

Best classroom in the world. Kids who pick their own snap peas eat more vegetables. We've seen it.

Easy to Maintain

Drip irrigation does the watering. Mulch keeps weeds down. We design for a few hours of fun work per week — not a part-time job.

Affordable

Real urban farming should be for everyone — not just folks with big budgets. We scope projects to fit your space and your wallet.

Common Questions

Urban Farming Questions.

How much does a custom garden cost in Portland?
Basic raised bed setups start around $500-$1,500. A solid backyard farm with multiple beds, drip irrigation, and fencing runs $2,500-$8,000. Larger projects scale from there. We price fair — urban farming should be for everyone.
What grows best in Portland's climate?
Almost everything cool-season — kale, lettuce, spinach, broccoli, brussels sprouts, carrots, beets, peas, herbs, berries. Tomatoes and peppers do great in summer. Portland's mild wet climate is one of the best growing climates in the country.
How much yard space do I need?
As little as 50 sqft can produce real food. 100-200 sqft can feed a family salads and greens most of the year. Got more space? We can scale up to small backyard farms or food forests.
Do you do community or neighborhood gardens?
Yes. We design and build shared gardens for HOAs, apartment complexes, churches, schools, and neighborhood groups. Multiple beds, fair layouts, easy to maintain by a group.
Will you maintain the garden after install?
Our main job is the build. We can come back for seasonal cleanups, soil refreshes, and tune-ups if you want — but most clients run the day-to-day care themselves. We give you all the planting and care guides you need.
